Posts from the Old Blog: Independence Day

Well, it’s Independence Day (and it is Independence Day in our house, not 4th of July – you slip up and say that and Matt will be very quick to point out that we don’t celebrate 25th of Dec, or 14th of Feb, do we?! No, and we don’t celebrate July 4th either!)

My daughter has been planning themed deserts all week (BTW, it’s awesome to have someone else in the kitchen).

She wanted to make a desert pizza. Well, I guess, if you really want to. Seriously, are 9 year olds supposed to be this good in the kitchen??! She scratch made the cookie dough crust and cool whip, and came up with this:

And red, white, and blue ice cream – this is vanilla ice cream with strawberry and blueberry syrups.

I took a few photos of the fireworks. These really suck for fireworks photography, but I didn’t have a tripod with me so this is what I got.

Maybe next year, when my 2 year old is 3, I’ll be able to take my eyes off of him long enough to do some proper photography. Na, I’m not counting on it.

Of course, we wouldn’t have much to celebrate if it weren’t for our Military. There’s a special place in my heart not only for those who serve, but their families as well. We made these at the Veterans Memorial in Bella Vista, AR.
