Poor deprived baby

Most parents can't get their kids to eat healthy.

"but Mom it's green"  "I'm not eating that"  "It crunches when I chew it, yuk."

I've got 1 like that.  I've also got one that's kind of in the middle, you know, likes her junk food but likes a good variety of healty stuff too.

And then I've got the weird one.  You know, one who eats all kinds of stuff that kids aren't supposed to eat.  He was once an 18 month old who walked around chopming on a whole cucumber almost everyday.  And who ate onions like they were apples.  Yum, Yum

People used to watch him, just a baby munchin on crunchy green stuff, and treat me like I was some kind of mean mommy not letting him have a few sweet treats.  Like I was depriving him.

Well, he's 10 now and this is what's left of his cantalope after a recent to a restaurant.  Apparently he still likes the healthy stuff.

Fatherly motivation

This image cracks me up - I like to call it fatherly motivation.

It looks like it could be a kick in the seat of the pants, but it's just a nudge forward.

The funniest thing, to me, about this image can't be seen.  It's the 5 minutes before the photo was snapped when Matt closed one side of the gate, as the baby snuck around to the other side to open it.  Then he closed that side as the baby snuck to the first side and opened it, and back and forth they went for several minutes - everytime Matt thinking he could get it closed before the baby opened the other side and the baby proving that he shouldn't be underextimated!

a Trip to Texas

We recently took a trip to Austin, TX for some wedding photography. We had a blast, I just wish we had been able to stay a little longer.

These first two are from a mexican restaurant we visited.

I ordered guacamole, but they gave me queso. I'm not bitter though.

I'm not quite sure what she'd doing here. But I love this photo because I had some sunglasses just like those when I was about her age in the 80's.

Kids these days think they are original. Little do they know every thing they wear was in style 20 years ago.

And this one is later that day, zonked out at the hotel.

A Date

Not too long ago I went out on a date with my boy, and Matt took our daughter out.

On several occasions us girls have taken a "girls day out" while the boys have had their "boys day out". So we thought we'd change it up a bit this time.

I love taking them out like this. I think the one-on-one is good for us both, I hope it means as much to them as it does me.

If it doesn't - oh, well. They can grin and bear it.

Brothers

My boys have a special understanding of each other. It's like life is an inside joke, and every one is "outside" except them.

They are best buds, brothers.

It's a little different than many brother's relationships because they are 8 years apart and my youngest is just 18 mos. old today. But they're brothers just the same.

Even when my youngest was an infant, his older brother could make him laugh and giggle when no one else could. Or he could immediately distract him from a fit when no one else could.

One of the most entertaining things in my life is watching these two interact.

I may not know why they are laughing. I probably don't want to. But it's still music to my ears.
